NutriGest supplies important phytochemicals and essential nutrients, such as glutamine and n-acetyl D glucosamine that can help restore and maintain normal mucosal epithelial cell function in the gastgrointestinal tract as well as benefit mucosal barrier function. FOS, a prebiotic nutrient nourishes and fortifies the friendly intestinal bacteria. This formula contains 500 Million active probiotic cultures per 1/2 teaspoon scoop of a blend of the 6 most bioactive strains of probiotic bacteria. NutriGest also contains the South American herbal extract, Cat's Claw, that has anti-inflammatory alkaloids that can normalize the healthy inflammatory response in the bowel. This formula also contains ginger root extract which has a particularly good effect on digestive function. Ginger root has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-microbial properties. DGL licorice root has been developed to reduce ulcers and inflammation of the mucosal surfaces in the stomach and the small and large intestines. Oregon grape root helps to normalize the beneficial bacteria and remove pathogens. Oregon grape root contains berberine HCL which is an anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial alkaloid found naturally in the root of this plant.

Its recommended use is for patients who are looking for herbal and nutraceutical supplements to help maintain a healthy bowel function. The herbs in this formula are strong smelling and tasting, but interestingly, most animals accept the formula with no problem. It is recommended to start with a small amount of powder and gradually increase the amount you are administering over a few days to achieve the recommended amount to administer twice daily with meals.

For pets who have chronic GI problems with stools that are not as healthy as they can be, it is recommended to combine this formula with RxBiotic for a higher inoculum of probiotic bacteria, and to use it with RxClay, which has natural anti-inflammatory activity and can firm the stool with its adsorbant activity.
